Fwd(2): 2nd grade auction basket theme

GINNY – WOULD YOU PLEASE SEND THIS OUT TO THE SECOND GRADE?  THANK YOU!

This year’s Pace auction will be held on Saturday, April 10 at the Buckhead Ritz Carlton.  The theme will be “The Knight Club.”

Each class P1-12 is responsible for providing an auction basket, and the theme for the 2nd grade’s basket must be determined by this Friday, December 11 (so sorry for such late notice!).  If you have something wonderful to contribute (great tickets for a local sports team, a vacation home, airline tickets, etc.), please let me know.

One great idea has already been suggested:  a “Beat the Recession” theme.  This basket would consist primarily of discount coupons that we solicit from a variety of favorite local stores, as well as other savings-related items (perhaps a donation of services from a CPA, etc.).

A few themes have already been claimed:

·         Lake House

·         Rock & Roll

·         Life's A Beach @ Seacrest Beach

·         Day & Knight Entertainment

·         Events, passes, gift cards

·         College Theme

Please let me know as soon as possible if you have ideas or a great contribution to get the basket  started.

Thanks so much!

Blair Robbins

New addition to the Lower School Dress code

Dear LS Parents,
I am amending the current dress code to allow an option to wear shorts throughout the school year.  Previously shorts were not allowed from Thanksgiving break until Spring break but I want to offer the option to all LS students.  Please keep in mind that all students go outside for recess every day.  Also keep in mind that 5th grade patrol morning duty lasts for 35 minutes and it is often very cold in the mornings and students should dress accordingly.

Let me also take the opportunity to ask you again to please make use of the serpentine in the mornings if possible.  This will alleviate the long line for drop off in the morning.
Sincerely,
Anna

Please send a non perishable good or a Publix gift card for your child to contribute to the basket that will be presented to one LS staff person per 5th grade classroom for a Thanksgiving thank you for all you do for the LS.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day on November 24
Note 5th graders and siblings will take photographs with their Grandparents and special friends that day.

Taste of Pace Cookbook Report
The Pace Cookbook is coming along.  The committee has received 560 recipes.  They have only 150 recipes left to test.  Pre-book orders will be available starting at all Annie performances and books will be distributed in April 2010.  Contact Holly Mitchell if you want to be a taste tester.

November 30-December 7 My Sister's House Toy Collection
58 children, ages 2 months to 16 years will benefit from this Lower School Holiday project that Pace (for 19 years) has adopted during the holiday season. You should have received a list of suggested items to purchase and do NOT wrap. Second grade brings an items for ages newborn to 7. My Sister's House administers to homeless mothers and their children by addressing their physical, social and spiritual needs.

Sing in the Season on December 6
All New students to Pace are to bring an UNBREAKABLE ornament to school.  New students will walk over to the upper school Christmas tree. While the middle and upper school chorus sing carols, new students will put their individual ornaments on the tree.  The ornaments will be put on the tree every year that your child attends Pace.  The ornament can be store bought or homemade.  We suggest something that has your child’s photo or name or religious preference.

GA Private School Tax Credit

To Second Grade parents:

Have you been hearing about the GA Tax Credit program but still have questions? Are you having trouble filling out the forms? If yes to these questions or have others, please call Ginny Hobbs at 404-240-9106 or ghobbs@paceacademy.org and she or someone in the Advancement office can help you through the 3 easy steps to completing your forms. Last year, we raised $360,000 from approximately 100 families. We are aiming for 300 participants or $750,000 for scholarships. Your friends and relatives in GA can participate as well. If you are subject to the AMT, (alternative minimum tax) this program actually can help you lower your federal income tax — of course we cannot provide tax advice, so consult your tax advisor. To complete your forms, go to GA Private School Tax Credit Program

It's a no brainer--Redirect your GA taxes to education today! With a deadline of Nov. 1 the time is now. Thank you.

It really is easy. Call me and I'll walk your through it! I'd love your feedback, if you think I should host a "drop by" the lower school and fill out your forms one morning, I'm happy to do that. Just want to know the scuttlebutt.

Fwd(2): School-wide Teacher Appreciation

Hi all! As I was looking at the volunteers for baking cakes, I realized that we have only MS and US bakers. This luncheon includes the entire faculty and staff of Pace, and the teachers LOVE to win yummy cakes, especially if they are baked by parents of their students. As a grade rep, if you could take a moment to think of a few people in your grade that might be wonderful volunteers, please send me their names and email addresses. I would like to send the request out myself to a specific lot of folks rather than forwarding to the entire class in order to have a better handle on the numbers. You may read the description of the event below to better understand the event.

Please give me a shout if you have any questions.

Thank you!

Dear Pace Volunteers Extraordinare!

Each year the Parents Club hosts a luncheon for the entire faculty and staff during their In-Service day which falls on Monday, November 2 this year. This luncheon is just one of the ways we show our appreciation for all the time and effort that is put into making our children's experiences at Pace grand. A highlight of this event each year is the chance to walk away with a delicious homemade cake or prize.

Go through your recipe files and whip up your favorite cake or pie. Please bring your cake on a non-returnable plate to the Inman Center cafeteria on November 2 between 9:30and 11:00 AM. Please label your item with the type of cake. It is always fun if you choose to include the recipe as well.

If you just cannot find the time to bake, we understand. Gifts of any kind or gift certificates to local merchants like Starbucks, Whole Foods, Piece of Cake, etc. are also welcomed prizes. Gift certificates may be placed in the Parent Club mailbox at the Castle front desk by October 30th. We will gladly make arrangements to receive gift items prior to this time, or you may drop them off in the cafeteria before 11:00 November 2. We ask that you send us a quick email to confirm your gracious gift of a cake or other prize so that we may insure an adequate supply of fun!

We realize that everyone is very busy, and understand if you are not able to participate in this event. Feel free to pass this email on to a friend who loves to bake. For those of you who can help, we thank you in advance for your support in making this a memorable event for our faculty and staff.

Fwd(2): Grade 2 Event Volunteers

Ginny,

I have attached the spreadsheet with grade volunteer summary.  There are four separate sheets in the file (listed at the bottom of the spreadsheet as Body, Lowery, Mahaney, and All).  The first three are in a grid format and the last is a summary more like a word chart.  I figured I would give people an option in how they like to view their information.  See if this all makes sense to you - I am sending the file just to you and not the other reps to get your feedback.

Swimming this week are...

According to my records: those students who started out kicking last rotation will swim:
The date for the new rotation is Sept. 22nd which is this upcoming Tuesday, you will need to bring a bathing suit and towel in a plastic bag. The following will begin swimming this upcoming week:
Aidan Gannon, Alan Tapper, Allie Appel, Austin Fullyer, Ben Crawford, Ben Tolliday, Claire Wierman, Connor Husk, Elle Arnold, Ethan Drake, Harrison Saini, Isabella DiMeglio, Jackson Hamel, Jordan Upchurch, Julia Kelly, Lilli Woodruff, Matthew Friestad, Payton Payne, Perrin Kendall, Rachel Kann, Virginia Hobbs

All others will kick or tumble. I'm just reporting swimmers as they will need to remember to bring swim suits to school. Plan to have a dry swimsuit ready to go each day.

This ENDS on Oct. 21st.

Hope this helps. Thanks and have a good weekend.
